First Haircut
Alex did well with his first haircut today. We went to Cool Cuts 4 Kids, which has lots of toys in the waiting area, fun chairs to sit in during the haircut, and DVDs or video games for the kids during the haircut. He was more interested in watching all of the other people than in watching an Elmo video.
I managed to hold out until Alex was 15 months old to go for a haircut. I was worried that it would make him look older, but actually he looks about the same. It is HOT here, so it will be nice for him to have shorter hair.

This Week at Daycare
Alex is getting settled into his new room at daycare. They have more structured activities, including music time. One of his daily reports said "When Alex heard the music he stood up and clapped his hands."
Alex seemed to be getting more comfortable in the room. Today's note said, "When another child was yelling, Alex turned to him and said and signed "stop" clearly before he got onto his cot for naptime."

Friday Evening
Tonight is a pretty typical Friday evening. My parents stopped by for a little bit to see Alex. John is playing softball, and the games are too late for Alex and me to attend. Once Alex goes to bed, I like to catch up on some blogs and stamping. Tonight I have been checking out Kristina Werner's blog, listening to the Paperclipping Roundtable and making Father's Day cards.

Free Class
Jessica Sprague is offering a free class: Computer Tricks for Cards. I took her digital scrapbooking class in spring 2008 and it was great.

Our Toddler
When we took Alex for his 15 month check-up, there was some concern that he was not walking yet. Of course, two days later he started taking some steps on his own. Now Alex can walk briefly on his own and is walking more and more each day.
On June 21, Alex will be moving up to the "Young Toddlers" room at the Child Development Center. I met one of his new teachers last Friday and was able to see his new room. The room and playground have more space to play, and he will be back in with some kids he already knows.
Last night we bought Alex his first pair of sneakers. He will need shoes with regular soles in the toddler room. He seems to walk well in them and they were on sale.
I enjoyed Jessica Turner's blog post on the Benefits of Daycare.

Texas Folklife Festival
Today we made our first trip to the Texas Folklife Festival. I had been to the Institute of Texan Cultures before, but I did not realize how large the grounds are until we walked around the festival. The festival is large and a lot of fun.
We ate Chinese, Lebanese, Irish (I'm counting Guinness in this category), and Belgian food. Alex enjoyed the fried rice and I got my falafel. We found a shaded table near one of the stages and set up camp there. We talked to the vendor next to us who draws maps. My mom talked to the Scottish and Irish dancers. It was a nice afternoon, but of course it was HOT.
Alex walked around the festival too. He walked with John, pushed his stroller, and took steps on his own. Alex enjoyed watching people, especially the other kids.
My mom took the photos today.

First Baseball Game
Alex went to his first baseball game on June 6th. We went to go see the San Antonio Missions (a Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres) play for my dad's birthday. It was HOT, but we made it to the 8th inning.
The Missions have fun mascots including Ballapeno, Little Ballapeno and Henry the Puffy Taco. I am not sure about the horse though...
Picking your Battles
For the summer, all of us are supposed to leave the house at 7:15 A.M. to get to work and daycare. Sometimes Alex has to entertain himself in the morning while we get ready for work, and one morning he found the roll of toilet paper in our bathroom. Sometimes you pick your battles, so I let Alex have fun while we got ready. The camera was handy, so I got a couple of pictures. We now keep the toilet paper rolls out of Alex's reach.

@ 15 Months
Alex is 32 inches tall and 22 pounds. It seems that his growth is slowing down a little.
Yesterday he took a couple of unassisted steps and another one today at daycare. One day he will decide to walk, but for now there is a lot of encouraging from the adults around him.
Alex is waving a lot more and mimicking more things. He is starting to do some baby signs, including "more". This morning I blew him some kisses when he left for school and he blew some back at me. It was quite cute :)

Not walking yet, but...
That is not slowing him down! Alex is pushing, climbing on, and riding his fire truck all over the house. If you are not careful, he will run you (or Frida) over.
Pictured: Alex rides into the family room. He climbs off the firetruck and pushes it to gets closer to the TV. He turns on the TV and rides away. 6/1/10
